I certainly think social media works well, especially with university students. As so many people spend so much time on these various platforms it is good to have a means to connect. But it is also good to compete with some of the vacuous information that wastes time on social media. 
I will be using twitter this Autumn for a course with undergrads and postgrads. I think it will be useful to many students, but I think it is also key not to make it necessary either. It simply has to be an alternative, extra, or flourish.

  3. A study indicates that teacher’s attitudes to students who are struggling can influence their perception of their own abilities.

    Letting students find their footing can be more helpful than comforting them early on.

  5. A fascinating infographic. My own feelings on why these changes have occurred? At first glance  I can’t help but think that if Universities are businesses then consumers want a decent product. For many the criteria for a decent value for money pay off is an easy ride with fine grades. There is the answer. With more and more people in HE there needs to be some relaxation of the criteria on which people get through the system. Otherwise growth of the University can’t continue and consumers won’t find it worth their while.
